Race information

FOR 2023 DUE TO LOW WATER LEVEL... Course is Modified as Follows...

Long Course


Start line - Start paddling down stream to island just after the I90 bridge. Go on the Right side (West side) of island. 

0.6 miles - Turn around the island (Counterclockwise) and paddle upstream.

2.3 miles - Turn around a buoy (Counterclockwise) and then paddle back down steam to another buoy located just above the portage at the Elgin Library.

5.7 miles - Turn around a buoy at Elgin Library portage (Counterclockwise) and paddle back upstream to the finish line.

8 miles - Finish Line


Short Course


Start line - Start paddling down stream to island just after the I90 bridge. Go on the Right side (West side) of island. 

0.6 miles - Turn around the island (Counterclockwise) and paddle upstream.

2.3 miles - Turn around a buoy (Counterclockwise) and then paddle back down steam to finish line.

3.3 miles Finish Line

Come and challenge your canoe, kayak, racing skills at the Illinois Paddling Council Voyageur Landing Race at Voyageur Landing Forest Preserve, Elgin IL (50 Airport Rd., Elgin, IL, 60123). This is a 8 mile upstream downstream race so no shuttling is required because the race starts and ends in the same location.

The Race starts downstream .5 miles to a counterclockwise turn around the first island. It then heads upstream 4 miles to the Carpentersville Bridge. Turns around any of the bridge's abutments and heads downstream to Voyager Landing for the finish. Total mileage about 8 miles. (See race course diagram below on this page)

Hot dogs will be served after the race and are included with the registration.

Registration cost is $20. 

Registration is done on the Day of the Race and opens at 8:30AM. 

This race counts points towards for the IPC traveling trophies.

After Race - Lunch (Hot Dogs Provided) and Awards 


No Shuttling - race starts and ends in the same location.

Voyageur Landing Race Course

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING PICTURES OF THE COURSE ARE WRONG SINCE THE COURSE IS MODIFIED FOR 2023!!!!

 Note: The course maybe modified due to river conditions on the day of the race. Details will be at the Safety Meeting.

Course Overview

Race Starts by heading down stream to the island. Turn counter clock wise and head to upstream to the turn-around bridge in Carpentersville.

Turn-around bridge in Carpentersville Main Street at Otto Engineering. After turning around a bridge abutment head down stream back to the finish.
